Tesco - Armagh

The design and construction of a new 44,000sq ft Tesco supermarket store incorporating retail, storage and office facilities in Armagh. The new two storey building was constructed with a combination of patent glazing and metal cladding on a timber and steel frame structure, with the steel frame being limited to the back of house areas and the timber frame being utilised in the main sales floor. The roof and wall panels were composite Kingspan panels, cladded with larch. The floor slabs were designed as a suspended fibre reinforced concrete slab with a shake top to the rear and a rack finish to the sales area.

The existing Fane Valley factory site required extensive enabling works and heavy civil engineering. We had to divert the main existing storm culvert around the footprint of the proposed building, and also the main foul sewer had to be diverted outside the building footprint. Due to the poor ground conditions the structure had to be piled.
